HISTORY OF N. DESOTO CHURCH OF CHRIST

On July eighteenth, Nineteen Hundred and Ninety Six John Howell and Tony Harris decided to assemble a new group of Christians. The first assembly of what now is the DeSoto Church of Christ took place in the home of Tony & Diane Harris on July 21, 1996. At 8:45 that Sunday morning sixteen souls in high spirits came together for Sunday school, singing, and praise. Present that Sunday was Tony Harris, Diane Harris, Brian Harris, Denise Harris, Joseph Harris, John Howell, Lorenzo Jackson, Edwin Page, Greta Page, Valerie Jones, Dominique Page, Malex Pace, LaTonya Pace, Quinnieta Jones, Benjamin Pace, Mable Pace and Milton Pace. The following two Sundays the group met in the home of Edwin & Greta Page and Milton & Mable Pace. These three weeks saw the numbers rise to 23. Then in the last week of July, Lorenzo Jackson found a building at 211 Executive Way of which on August 1, 1996 the first month's rent was paid. At that time the group was known as the "Executive Way Church Of Christ." The group met there for five months and the numbers grew to 31 members.

On December 22, 1996 the group moved to 209 B Executive Way.

On June 1, 1997 with 36 members the group rented and moved to 1670 N. Hampton Rd. Suite 110 and adopted the name the DeSoto Church Of Christ. On October 5, 1997 the church enlisted a new pulpit minister and spiritual guide in the person of brother Rufus F. Johnson. For legal reasons we adopted the name of "North DeSoto Church of Christ" and to identify it's location.

Three investors (Alvis Bryn, Steve Singleton and Rufus Johnson) obtained 37 acres of land in 1998 and six acres of that land was donated by those three investors for our building in 1999. We were able to secure funds to construct a new facility in 1999.

The place of worship was constructed at 1301 N. Polk St. by Clifford Yeldell and we moved into our new building on the first Sunday of June 2002.

During the year of 2003 we raised over $35,000 for a special project of building extra parking spaces.

During the year of 2004 the Church has been able to have land cleared, valued at over 12,000. Dirt hauled in, valued at over 300,000. We have acquired a Church Van, valued at over 25,000. We’ve raised over $65,000 toward our Special Project to pay off the note on the building. We will be paying off the note on the building in January 2005.

Since 1997 we have experienced some 64 baptisms and 79 persons placing membership.

PUMPKINS

Pumpkins are big.

Pumpkins are good and sweet.

Pumpkins are sick.

Pumpkins are glad.

Pumpkins are sad.

Pumpkins are mad.

Pumpkins are happy.
